Ergonomic mice protect our hands and wrists from the damaging effects of repetitive motions. Each year, iMore looks at the newest input devices on the market to determine which ones are the best for different situations. The Logitech MX Ergo is our favorite ergonomic mouse to date. We've gathered other noteworthy ergonomic mice to help you choose the one that fits your needs best.

Best Overall: Logitech MX Ergo Wireless Trackball Mouse

The Logitech MX Ergo mouse features a unique adjustable hinge that allows you to customize the trackball's angle up to 20 degrees. With this flexibility, the mouse is ideal for anyone looking for a more natural, comfortable hand position for reduced muscle strain.

With a rubber grip top, the mouse offers full palm and finger support for remarkable control. In addition to this, you have the ability to change the speed and accuracy of your cursor and the quick access of shortcuts, the device has features both basic computer users, and experts will appreciate and use.

Are you looking for more? The Logitech MX Ergo can perform up to four months on a single charge of the li-poly battery, which recharges via micro-USB. One minute of charge time is enough to give you an entire day of use.

To fully utilize this trackball mouse, you'll need to embrace the expected learning curve that comes with it and the device's somewhat hefty size. It measures 3.92 x 5.21 x 2.02 inches. However, any of the minor hoops you need to jump through during setup are worth it, as is the price.

Best Value: Anker Vertical Ergonomic Optical Mouse

Ergonomic mice don't have to be expensive. Here's one with lots of powerful features for less. Featuring a unique power-saving mode that shuts the device off after eight minutes of being idle, the Anker Vertical Ergonomic Optical Mouse is wireless and can work across multiple devices, including Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Offering easy-access buttons and three levels of mouse sensitivity, the mouse provides some customization, but not as much as other products on the market. In doing so, this becomes a solid choice for anyone looking for an ergonomic input device for not a lot of cash.

Though we're not thrilled the mouse doesn't include built-in rechargeable batteries, we take comfort in knowing the two AAA batteries that are required can last up to a year before needing to be replaced. You should also be aware that some users have complained about the mouse's slippery surface, which is something to keep in mind before making a purchase.

Pros:

  • Great price
  • Precise tracking on a variety of surfaces
  • Includes power-saving mode

Cons:

  • Requires 2 AAA batteries required
  • The surface could be too slippery for some
  • Beware, those with small hands

Comfort for less

Skip the Starbucks drive-thru a few times and buy this vertical mouse instead. You'll be happy you did.

There's no denying the SteelSeries Rival 710 is an expensive gaming mouse. However, it's easily worth the price of admission. Comfortable is the perfect word to describe this incredible mouse that's wrapped entirely with soft-touch material, not hard plastic like others on the market. Another advantage: nearly every piece of the mouse is replaceable, including the sensor, backplate, and more. This means (drumroll), you can swap out parts for performance and customization.

Beyond this, the SteelSeries Rival 710 includes eight buttons, three which are programmable. There's also a TrueMove3 optical sensor that offers one-to-one tracking for pinpoint accuracy.

We can do without the heavily advertised OLED on the side of the mouse that generates in-game stats and notifications. The haptic feedback is equally gimmicky. These drawbacks aside, this is one fun-filled gaming mouse.

Pros:

  • USB and Bluetooth compatible
  • Modular Support
  • Oh, so comfortable

Cons:

  • Yes, it's expensive
  • Avoid the gimmicks
  • Large mouse

Creatives and business types alike should spend some time with the MX Master 2S Wireless Mouse from Logitech. The beautifully designed device offers comfort, control, precision, and customization.

Made to run on any surface, the rechargeable MX Master 2S lets you control up to three Macs or PCs at the same time through either Bluetooth or USB. Better still, its hand-crafted shape offers support for both your hand and wrist.

Online reviews on the MX Master 2S are mostly positive, although some have expressed concerns. Some users report having discoloration issues with their mouse after years of use, while others note the occasional connection issue. The latter typically resolves with a battery charge or firmware update.

Pros:

  • Offers over two months of power on a single charge
  • Dual connectivity
  • Offered in different colors -- a rarity

Cons:

  • Some complain of discoloration over time
  • Pricey bet, although sales are out there
  • Touchy connection issues reported with some units

A workhorse

With up to 70 hours of runtime between charges, this wireless mouse we keep going and going.

Compatible with macOS, Windows, and Chrome, the Kensington Orbit Wireless Trackball offers a customizable 2-button design that focuses on comfort and precision. If you're looking for an ergonomic trackball mouse without a lot of bells and whistles, that might be enough.

Operational through a USB dongle only, the Kensington Orbit works with replaceable batteries and includes a trackball measuring 32mm. Perhaps the biggest reason to purchase the Kensington Orbit: it's usable in both your right and left hand. Southpaws, you've been shown some love!

If you're looking for a wireless mouse with a rechargeable battery and lots of customization, this isn't the one you should buy. Otherwise, yes, it's worth considering.

Pros:

  • Ambidextrous design
  • Works across different platforms
  • No drivers needed

Cons:

  • Basic, two-button design
  • No Bluetooth
  • 2 x AA Batteries

Simple design

No frills here. Despite this, this mouse will provide you with years of enjoyment.

The final ergonomic mouse on our list isn't just for folks with small hands. Rather, it also makes a great gaming input device for those on the go, regardless of hand size! Offering an astonishing 350 hours of continuous use before the AA batteries need to be replaced, this small device is a workhorse that features dual connection capability.

With built-in Bluetooth (BLE) technology, the Razer Atheris is easy to set up and small enough to fit easily into your bag or pocket. Store the included USB dongle inside the device's small compartment when you're traveling, or it's not in use.

Be careful though; at 2.4 ounces, it's heavy for its size. It's also pricey compared to many of the alternatives.

Pros:

  • 350 hours between charges!
  • Dual connection capability
  • Very good for gaming

Cons:

  • Smaller mouse means less precise handling
  • Expensive
  • Weighs a lot for its size

Tiny and hefty

Whether you're a traveler or someone with small hands, this is a well-made ergonomic mouse that's worth considering.

Bottom line

Computer mice were among the first technology products to get the ergonomic treatment many years ago. Today, these little wonders of moveable parts come in various sizes, designs, and price points. Our favorite ergonomic mouse, the Logitech MX Ergo, is a terrific choice for anyone looking to reduce muscle strain while working or gaming. The device's rubber grip makes it both comfortable and durable.

The MX Ergo is also highly customizable, making it a great choice for a wide variety of users. Yes, our choice is one of the more expensive mice on the market. For the many reasons mentioned above, we feel it's well worth it. Just remember to embrace the learning curve!

My best investment was Apple's Magic Mouse, which is designed specifically for Mac and works like a mini trackpad. There are other great options out there, too.
